What are unplanned readmissions?
When patients come back to hospital unexpectedly, we call that an unplanned readmission. There are number of reasons for why patients do this and they are complex. It could be social reasons, surgical complications, poor administrative purposes, lack of local clinical skills. Unplanned readmissions are a poor outcome for the patient and consume unnecessary resources of the hospital.
