X-Laser, a professional manufacturer of high powered laser systems is looking to create a unified company aesthetic from which we can have a website, newsletter template, catalog designed. Our goal is to create a "voice" for the company, similar in nature to the way that Apple presents its products. When you see an Apple ad, website, television commercial, etc. you immediately recognize the aesthetic. We are not trying to copy Apple's aesthetic, we use that only to illustrate that achieving a cohesive vision across our marketing materials is our goal.

This project is a contest to see who can design the best aesthetic for our needs while meeting certain goals. Our products are highly visual, dramatic and interesting. We want to showcase them while really focusing on the customer experience of using them. Without the customer, they can be gorgeous all day long and it won't matter.

So, here are our goals:

1) We want a clean, uncluttered aesthetic where each element of the design is clearly distinct from others. This can be accomplished with boxes, drop shadows, or just simply "white" space but we want it to be easy for the customer to skim.

As an example of this concept, please look at this page: http://evernote.com/evernote/ where you can clearly see that each element has a place and is nicely separated from others for easy browsing.

2) We want to present a large amount of information with rich media assets in an organized way. Building on the example above, we really like the layout and features of this site which has quite a lot of content, but yet is still easy to use and skim.

3) We like darkness, but we love light. Below is a link to our catalog. You can see that there is very little white space and is sort of back and forth between dark, dramatic pages and washed out pictures with text over it. That's ok… but we are looking for something better. The darkness and drama showcases the product well as exemplified by the cover and Polaris internal page, but that super dark look is too much for a whole catalog or website and needs to be punctuated with brightness and clarity. We need to maintain the drama of the darkness without completely breaking the motif. Think perhaps strong grays and design elements to tie it all together better than we have done in the catalog.

I have also attached a screen shot that we think makes nice use of this light/dark concept for something like a product page. It can easily showcase the product features, as well as maintaining the aesthetic of the overall site.

4) In keeping with the goal of the project, we need the design aesthetic to translate nicely to a variety of media, including a print catalog, website, email newsletter, etc.

In judging a winner, we are looking for a coordinated layout for each of the following media elements:

1) Website main page
2) Website product page
3) Printed catalog product page
4) Email template

Please note, these do not need to be FUNCTIONAL, meaning no coding is required on the website. We are looking for an aesthetic design at this time, not a full working website. Bonus points will be given to creative slogans, interesting uses of current content, thought given to branding and messaging and elements which naturally encourage customers to give us their contact information.
