Hi there Mike, great brief! I'd love to submit a design for this project, I just wanted to clarify a few things before I begin:

Do you have any preference to the colour/palette? I understand you want to go for "eye-catching" but is there any particular colours you would want including/not including?

Do you want the text "The Chimney Doctor" to be the main feature of the logo or the symbol?

Last question, how would you feel about the logo including a character or mascot, specific to your industry?

I just posted an update to my spec for the job before your comment came in. It might give you more of an idea and it answers your questions. You are thinking along my lines for this design. I would be delighted if you would submit a design.
I am thinking of going to the franchise stage with this business as my expertise in dealing with chimneys goes back forty years. I would like something that will become brand recognisable on vans and work wear.

I don't have a preference for font, however I am a great believer that if you go to the trouble of printing a sign on a vehicle or other signage people should not have to follow you down the road to read what the sign says. It should be easy to read and the colour should be eye catching without being too flashy.
