We are helping medical device manufacturers create safe products by providing online training in application of risk management.

The online courses contains sound and images and get very high ratings in the course evaluations. The images contain various types of graphical figures to illustrate humans (standard clipart, custom made vectors). The goal is to replace the various characters with one style to build a brand around the courses and the characters.

The reason for wanting cartoons instead of stockphotos is because we want to be able to put the figures in many different situations and environments without having to search forever for Stockphoto that would look different in style in the end anyway.

The challenge is that the industry as well as risk management (as this particular course is about) are serious matters and the audience are grown ups. On the same time, cartoon's are often made for children and not for serious things. This is somewhat of a paradox and a challenge for you as a designer - design a character that does not appear to be for children, but have a serious touch to it.

The goal is to find a design that can be used for many more courses in the future.

Ideally, I expect the following characters:
1. Man
2. Woman
3. Old, sweet and happy woman in hospital bed.

If that is too big scope, deliver one or two of the characters above.

Since the courses we make comprise many slides (+200), and several "scenes" with the figures and characters in them, it is good if the cartoon is fairly simple to edit to create either new postures or versions of it to keep the cost of creation reasonable. Examples of features that assist this process are:
- A face in which expressions can be changed without changing the whole head
- Arms that are relatively thin, so that they can be "bent" pointing in different directions
