Visual Identity brief
The London Musical Theatre Orchestra is a new professional orchestra who have formed to play a Musical Theatre repertoire in a series of concerts at prestigious London concert halls – a repertoire which will include The Book of Mormon, Wicked, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Sound of Music and Chess.
This is an orchestra formed of musicians with an enthusiasm for musical theatre and the performances will be a far cry from the classic orchestra renditions of ‘a night at the musicals’.
The logo needs to convey the life-enhancing passion of music, a sense of performance, and above all be a symbol of inspiration for audiences and orchestra players.
Our ambition is to be known as LMTO and the logo needs to incorporate that acronym but also the words London Musical Theatre Orchestra – although over time we would like to simply be seen as LMTO.
Identities we admire – the LSO for its mimickry of a conductor’s baton, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for its visual representation of the Opera House with a modern twist and the Sydney Youth orchestra for its impact and vitality.
The logo needs to work in digital media, so an idea of how it might animate is critical – colours should also be considered with digital media in mind. The Book of Mormon red/orange colour should be investigated and used as potential inspiration.
Think differently – we’re new, we’re doing something different, we’re full of ambition – but we want to be taken seriously and be respected as serious performers.
NB - the website design should NOT be used as inspiration for the logo. The link is there to provide background into the Orchestra's start in life. The details of LMTO launching professional concerts is not yet public knowledge, hence no mention of it on the current website.
