Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

We are a boutique consumer research agency based in London. We have a website where you can find out more about us (www.craftstrategy.co.uk) but this will shortly be redesigned and should not be used as a basis for the new visual identity we are looking to achieve.

Please see document attached for full logo design brief.

In short, we need a logo design that conveys our brand values (modern, real, edgy, impactful) and conveys our company ethos:

• We believe in researching brand realities, by which we mean that we research brands and people in context, out there in the real world. This is in contrast to many agencies who tend to conduct research in laboratory-style conditions

• We believe that to truly understand a problem you need to look at it through different analytical lenses / from different perspectives, drawing on the disciplines of psychology, sociology, anthropology, human geography, semiotics, social media listening and so on

Stylistically we imagine our new visual identity having some of the hallmarks of the best photo journalism, a mix of glamour and gritty reality. We want to be cool rather than corporate, but this coolness should reflect everyday life rather than exclusivity, the lives of the rich and famous.

The outputs we need are:

1. A logo that legibly spells out our trading name, Craft (we're not wedded to sentence case - it could equally be upper or lower case)
2. A branding device that can be used as part of the logo or on its own (i.e. a symbol such as the Nike 'Swoosh'... but relevant to who we are and what we want to communicate)

Following completion of this brief we will immediately be looking to commission further design work for our company stationery and PowerPoint / Word / Pages documents. These briefs will follow.

Hello all - thanks for your submissions thus far.

PLEASE NOTE: I have just uploaded a new PDF document of visuals to help shape your thinking.

Basically, there are three creative routes we are particularly keen to see explored:

1. Looking at the world through glass / mirrors (something we often do in our line of work)

2. Refracted light (we get different experts / academics to look at the data we collect and extract different layers of meaning - all of which add up to the whole)

3. CCTV  (CCTV cameras are increasingly there to observe people in the real world... which is what we do).

Thank you for your work so far.

Alex

Project Deadline Extended
Added Sunday, September 22, 2013

Hello Everyone

Please note that we have extended our deadline by 5 days because we want to give you a chance to see the PDF document we uploaded yesterday.

The PDF contains three ideas for possible creative routes - we want to see what you can do with these ideas.

Please do not submit an idea without reading both our original brief and the follow-up PDF... 90% of the designs we've seen so far either have nothing to do with our brief (except featuring our company name) or are too cliched  (no more magnifying glasses, please!!!).

Many thanks / best wishes

Alex

Hello everyone - many thanks indeed for all your submissions - it was a close-run thing but as ever there can only be one winner and the wining idea can now be seen at www.craft-realities.com

Ultimately, we went with this design because it avoided cliches (like magnifying glasses, speech bubbles and silhouettes of corporate-looking people), conveyed the idea of refraction, was modern / different, and was pleasing on the eye.

Ironically, the winning designer was a local UK person who we know well and have worked with before on various occasions. Contrary to a comment I read by someone on here this designer is not an employee of our company but is a freelancer who had just as much right to enter this competition as anyone else...  so no more sour grapes please.

To end on a positive note, thank you again to each and every one of you who took the time to read our brief and enter the competition. As someone who regularly pitches for work I 100% empathise with how it feels not to win something after slogging your guts out for hours.... but hey, we chose this line of work and on balance I'd rather live like this than work for the man.

Best wishes and good luck to all of you.

Alex
