ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION: Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse warehouse for home improvement supplies in the Washington DC area. We aim to turn the construction waste stream into a resource stream and create green jobs.

We’re “the Home Depot of thrift stores” – instead of dealing with clothing or couches, we pick up donations of building materials, architectural salvage, and antiques from renovation sites throughout the metro region. Then, we offer the supplies to the public at low cost, and provide vintage materials for restoring old homes. We also offer public education about reuse, and provide thousands of dollars of free supplies to local nonprofits and neighbors in need each year.

ABOUT THE EVENT: Each year we host a large fundraiser, our annual "Garden Party." The event has become a local tradition to welcome the spring season. Here’s what it includes:

--Over the winter, we collect lawn and garden tools and supplies, then put it all out that weekend. It’s like Black Friday for gardeners – folks start lining up outside our gates an hour before the party starts, then rush in to fill their carts with gently-used flower pots, rakes, and other bargains.

--We host a “Garden Party Attire” costume contest, so people and pets get dressed up in seersucker suits, frilly dresses, jaunty hats, and flowers to win prizes.

--We have gardening experts and workshops, live music, a food truck, and baked goods.

ABOUT THE CARD: As this event draws near (April 1st and 2nd) we need to get postcards out to our customers, donors, and neighbors. We're looking for a design that will highlight the connection between springtime, gardening, and environmental sustainability, as well as our reclaimed building materials and architectural salvage.

I have included photos from some of Community Forklift's past Garden Parties. Please do not use photos in the design. This is for inspiration and to give you an idea about the party's theme and our organization. We are looking for original graphics that will reflect our quirky personality and vintage flavor - not a corporate-looking card with photos and sleek modern lines.
