Anforderungen
Muss haben
  • Please put in order in tri fold brochure
  • Who we Are:
  • The Board Members of Never Give Up are dedicated to the need of accessibility for outdoor activities within an educational camp facility. Our Board Members represent a variety of backgrounds, and disabilities.
  • Our Mission:
  • Never Give Up, Inc is a 501c(3) nonprofit founded in 2004 in Hawaii that is dedicated to helping children, young people and particularly those with mobility impairments reach their own potential, empower dignity, and motivate purposeful living. Our passion is to inspire, educate, and create accessible outdoor facilities.
  • We have 5 beautiful acres of leased land located on the West sunny side of the Maui Island. This property is near an accessible part of the ocean
  • The Need:
  • 53 million individuals with disabilities live in the United States and one billion people with disabilities live around the world. Everyone in their life time is at risk of mobility impairment. This could happen any day, at anytime to anyone. Families that experience catastrophic events or individuals are born with developmental disabilities face enormous challenges. Many families that experience this are financially destroyed and spiritually as well as emotionally exhausted. One of the biggest struggles those with disabilities face is getting enough education. Most individuals with disabilities often are left to feel isolated and alone. The American Disabilities Act was implemented in 1990, but most therapeutic outdoor activities are not accessible to those with disabilities especially on the Hawaiian Islands.
  • Building the dream:
  • Camp Can Do Maui will be a 100% wheelchair accessible and barrier free camp facility that will be built on 5 acres of land in Olowalu, Maui Hawaii. This future farm facility would be used to educate, and enrich the lives of those with disabilities as well as their families and help them heal their emotional, spiritual, and psychological hurt. In an ranch like setting, educational and nurturing programs will be centered around old Hawaiian culture, agricultural history, production, animal care, and teamwork. With a host of innovations for enhanced accessibility such as raised garden beds, and wider pathways those attending the facility would be empowered with more independence. Therapeutic adaptive sporting activities designed for those with physical mobility impairments will be available, like kayaking, paddle boarding, and zip lining.
  • Life Time Value:
  • This future facility would promote awareness to the community around it about the importance of humanity and education as well as providing inclusion and equality for those with disabilities. Therapeutic outdoor activities will allow those to heal and gain invaluable tools. Participants of the camp would leave with a Never Give Up Attitude, integrating into their communities with positive potential and purposeful living. Together we can walk and roll!
  • Where your money will go:
  • Phase 1 to pursue a State Special Land Use permit.
  • To get the special land use permit together for the Planning Department of Maui, it will cost $20,000.
  • Below is a breakdown of the first phase of the permit:
  • -Archaeological summary
  • -Site survey
  • -fulfill legal notification requirements to existing neighbors
  • -Traffic Impact analysis
  • -Drainage and Erosion Control analysis
  • -Waste Water System Design
