can it be more than 3 colours? Making a good design is difficult with only 3 colors, can we use many shades of 3 colors?

To keep the printing cost reasonable we are trying to stay with 3 colors, if possible. If it takes more than that to get an awesome design we rather have more colors/shades then get cheap on the wrong end.
