ABOUT COMMONGROUND
http://www.common-ground.org.au
Commonground is a not-for-profit social enterprise that has been supporting social justice, environmental, disadvantaged and community groups since 1984. It does this through providing its conference and retreat venue at subsidised rates for social change groups; its education and training organisation, the Groupwork Institute of Australia; and its Intentional Community, who run the venue and the Commonground Social Change Festival.
Commonground vision: A just, nonviolent and sustainable world.
Commonground aims:
1. To provide a conference and retreat venue for the social change movement at the Commonground property, in the bush near Seymour in Central Victoria.
2. To support collaborative education and training to help people work effectively together for social change,
3. To develop a vibrant Intentional Community of people living and working together at the Commonground property.
Note that Commonground has a sister organisation called the Groupwork Institute of Australia (GIA). GIA has it’s own logo (see groupwork.com.au). It is important for the Commonground logo to be clearly distinct from the GIA logo, however it would be nice if the logos looked visually appealing if placed next to each other.
CONSIDERATIONS
Commonground is run by a collective of volunteers and paid workers with very diverse levels of skill when it comes to graphics and logo usage. Given this, the logo design needs to be robust and simple to use. The logo will be used online and in printed form. When printed, it will mostly be printed from a home laser printer and as such, any colours and fine graphics applied to the logo design should consider maintaining the integrity of the logo look and and feel under these conditions.
COLOUR
We are open to having a black and white or a colour logo. However, given the issues described in the ‘considerations’ section, limited use of colour or a striking black and white logo is probably best.
FONT
Commonground uses the Proxima Nova font. We would like this font applied in some of the logos presented. We are also open to other fonts being used in the logo. The font treatment in the logo should ensure the word Commonground is clearly legible when the logo is printed in a very small format (eg as part of a logo block on a flyer).
Updates
Hello designers,
We have updated our design brief as follows:
We are interested in logos that are circular or have some flow. We want a gentle but bold, logo that invites people in.
The logo should avoid squares, rectangles, hard edges and anything that looks corporate.
Thank you very much for your time and effort.
Best wishes,
amy

We have changed the project to guarantee payment to the chosen designer. Because of this, we want to make sure we allow time for any new designer who may now be interested in submitting a design.
Hi there,
Just an quick update from my end. The Commonground Committee have had lots on late last year and early this year so they had not yet made a decision on the logo. However, we are moving forward slowly and hope to have a decision in the next few months.
I'll keep you updated as we progress.
Thanks so much for your patience and sorry for the delay!
Cheers,
amy

Muss haben
- We are interested in logos that are circular or have some flow. We want a gentle but bold, logo that invites people in.
- We would like a logo that invites people in. Our logo should feel like a welcome. Key words to think about are - connectedness, community, people, change, fun, collaboration, powerful, activist, nature. We would like to see a fresh, modern, visual interpretation of these types of words in the logo. We have done some engagement with the Commonground community to understand words they associate with the organisation - the attached word cloud shows the outcomes of this work.
Schön zu haben
- COLOUR
- We are open to having a black and white or a colour logo. However limited use of colour or a striking black and white logo is probably best. We are partial to colours from nature the reflect the Australian bush (earthy colours - greens, ochres etc)
