Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

Next year we are celebrating our 40th anniversary as a defense magazine/online publication. We'd like to commemorate it with a logo that will be running on the home page, sidebar and emails. Our audience is mostly males, 24-64 of age, English speaking, by definition, interested in military, defense, and international news and politics.

The logo should associate with the current logo and website's design and colors (http://www.defense-update.com), be clear and bold (think Thunderbirds, or Blue Angels aerobatic display teams), but, at the same time, not show off too much as we are basically modest and 'understatement' people, that stick to thorough analysis, facts and honest values rather than showing off.

The 40th anniversary is a major milestone for us, as we evolved through the years from covering a subscriber-only magazine covering military history, to modern, web-based, future looking, technology oriented publication published online free of charge. The logo should excite readers and convey our unique values to advertisers, by separating us from competing publications that do not have our unique and vast experience.

I'd like to be able to continue using this logo after 2018, using 'Since 1978' or something similar, instead of the 1978-2018 rider. The logo should also be usable on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin as an image and be able to transform into an avatar on social media (not necessarily be readable though)

I attached a 40th year logo I found online, which captured my eyes, but not necessarily addresses the points I made.
