Hi, the brief is awesome! Good to see that someone cares about the result. To "modernize" the app you may think outside the Mickey Mouse bear shape, and maybe the chocolate / wooden brown scheme could be revised as well.

My question is if you are open to some revision of the bear mascot, and some new color schemes?

I actually submitted the designs both with your directions you laid out and with my suggestions as well. Hope you like it, also, do not hesitate to give any feedback you have on your mind.

Thanks again for the thoughtful project! I'd really like to make the new UI as well (I mostly do UI design, see my portfolio), but that is another story for another day.

Thank you for the great question. Yes, you could get rid of the bear character or go beyond the color scheme, as long as you can keep the historical connection from the previous versions, and the existing users can intuitively recognize that it's the same app.

So if you are brave enough to go beyond the bear character and the color scheme, go ahead and give it a shot! It would be challenging but in fact that's exactly what I expect from the professional designers.

But you could also play it safe to stick with the bear character and the color scheme. That way may have higher chance to success.
