Buchumschlag Design Kurzbeschreibung
I am looking for a book cover design. Perhaps it's easier to describe the book and let the designing pros go from there. Title: A Soldier's Tale of Combating Hangovers. Sub-title: Debauchery Before the Internet. It is a memoir of hysterical stories told from the first person. The story follows a soldier (yours truly) from training for the U.S. Army Armor Corps, to being stationed in Germany in the early 1990s before the internet took over the world.
Part One: describes the author's funny stories about Army training and the unique situations he gets into: punishments from the drill sergeants and the absurdity of some of the training. The drill sergeants tricking us into thinking they'd shot a guy for running away- playing out right on front of us. The humorous struggles of becoming a soldier.
Part Two: Being stationed in Germany, thinking we were still under the rules of drinking at 21 versus 18 in Europe- first night me puking on a senior sergeants boots, the wild journey to Spain to run with the bulls, first time on the autobahn and I was driving an army vehicle naked with a French audience. Shit and tons of beer drinking in Germany at various beer fests, being thrown out of bars, fighting fellow soldiers in the streets of Europe- normal everyday stuff for a young soldier before the advent of the internet. There is plenty of beer drinking in and around Europe, but tons of it in Germany at beer fests and in general. The book also focuses on the brotherhood of the guys I was stationed with and the bond we still share today.
It is a wild, wild ride down memory lane. Its mostly a collection of outrageously, hysterical stories and some reflecting on the way the world was before 9/11 and the internet now that the author has grown up.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: I'm looking for a book cover that is professional, yet fun. Eye-catching, yet tasteful.
The pictures I uploaded- some are mine, others are simply pulled from the internet- so I do not have rights to ones downloaded from the internet- they are to be used as a guide only.
The title of the book suggests it could be a journey to sobriety- THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE. That is why I'm looking for something fun and something that says this is NOT a self-help, sober up book. This a fun, hilarious, wild ride down memory lane of life in the 1990's in Europe for an American soldier.
All of the pictures do not necessarily have to be incorporated, but please use them as a guide into your design. The tanks were the job and the beer drinking was the life.
The unit patch (Old Ironsides) was always a thing of pride, even today. It separates the soldiers into groups we can all easily identify.
The unit crest (Insiste Fermiter tiger) was always cool, but not as much a thing of pride as was the unit patch.
I want the cover to scream that this book is FUN to read, but without balloons and streamers. I wish you us all good luck in finding me a great cover. Thanks in advance. I am open to any and all inquiries regarding ideas and directions.
It can be simple (me passed out on the floor in the uploaded pic) or elaborate (incorporate what you think will sell a unique book to an unique audience)- tasteful, professional and fun.
Aktualisierungen
Still working with a designer to get the details correct and to my specifications, but close to finalizing a decision. I need a couple of more days. Thank you.
Zielmarkt/( -märkte)
My target audience is obviously active duty, retired and veteran armed forces service members- both men and women.
As tankers didn't have women in the tank corps then, males are my primary target audience.
Males: 30-60 years of age. Tough guys, go-getters, patriot types.
The book is very military based, but also written so that civilians can easily understand the texts. I broke down the meaning and reasoning behind the military and its methods so that both military and civilians would enjoy it.

Muss haben
- A professional look, but not stuffy. I want to ensure the person that picks up the book or sees it online, the cover design says, I AM FUN/ FUNNY TO READ. The title could suggest that its a self-help road to recovery from alcohol- THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE (I wanted to make that doubly clear). Ensure the design exudes that, please.
The First Armor patch I uploaded (Old Ironsides) isn't an absolute must have, but the colors are eye catching and a very recognizable military division/ unit for my market.
I want it to feel patriotic without going over the top.The American flag- if incorporated- should be displayed higher than any other if they're used as well, please.
Schön zu haben
- American and German flags, beer steins (traditional/ big ones like I uploaded).
A silhouette of the tank, not necessarily the actual picture of the tank.
Have fun: a picture of me passed out inside the silhouette of a tank- cool.
The beers surrounded by flags and unit crests- cool.
Have fun with it... FUN- PROFESSIONAL- EYE-CATCHING!
Whomever has the design I choose will certainly get a free copy of the book (cover) they designed. I feel that's only fair.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to working with whomever is out there diligently toiling away on a beautiful book cover for my memoir.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR WANT TO HIT ME UP ON SOME IDEAS OR DIRECTIONS, PLEASE MESSAGE ME AND WE CAN IRON IT OUT TOGETHER BEFORE YOU PUT TO MUCH WORK INTO IT- SAVE US BOTH SOME TIME AND EFFORT. THANKS-
Sollte nicht haben
- Nothing dark or ominous.
