Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

We have created a scholarship in memory of a man named Jeff Kidwell. This scholarship is for aspiring engineers from central Virginia where Jeff grew up and that need additional financial support to reach for their dream of getting their engineering education at Virginia Tech (VT). We seek a meaningful, but simple design for this logo that evokes the memory of Jeff who passed away from cancer 2 years ago but also has enough gravitas to be on stationary. Two design elements we are thinking about are (1) Jeff's faded orange VT hat that he always wore as shown in attached picture (perhaps hanging on a peg or something?) and (2) something that indicates this is a scholarship for engineering school. But I am not an artist so that is just one suggestion. The colors for Virginia Tech are Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange, specified at https://brand.vt.edu/identity/color.html
