Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

Most people think of polished, sparkling, gemstones when they think of diamonds. Diamond, however, is valued also for its utility. It is the hardest material on earth. Because of this, diamond has an essential role in many industrial manufacturing processes. The diamonds used in this way are referred to as "industrial diamonds". The people who select diamonds for use in tools and manufacturing are known as Industrial Diamond Assorters.

I am looking to have a lapel pin designed to give, as thanks, to friends in the industrial diamond industry. It takes a long time to develop the skills necessary to do this work. I'd like to have a pin to recognize those in our small community who have spent their lives perfecting their knowledge of this important material. I'll be giving them away as a thank you to people I have worked with over the years.

I'd like the pin to use some or all of the following symbols:
1. A shrike (see examples). A shrike is a song bird that behaves like a bird of prey. They are often underestimated, often overlooked, intelligent, patient, have incredibly keen eye sight, and behave like birds of prey.
2. A diamond, either of a polished or rough stone (examples of both types can be found in the attached pics.)
3. A symbol of industry. For example, an anvil, barbed wire, a cog or hammer
4. The Latin phrase: "Omnem Moverum Lapidum". The exact translation of the phrase is, "to move every stone", however, it is understood to mean, "Leave no stone unturned".

Assorters sort through thousands and thousands of stones every day - literally turning every stone over as they examine them - looking for those special few which have the right characteristics for industrial applications. In many ways they remind me of the shrike which hunts from a perch, sitting quietly for long periods, methodically scanning the ground below them for prey. They have sharp eyes and keen senses. Technically they are passerine birds - song birds, designed for perching. They behave like raptors, however, disproportionately tough and aggressive for their size.

I would like the pin to have the feel of something like an official university or government seal. I am imagining something that looks like it was designed in the early 1900's. If you prefer to go more modern, I'm open to considering it. Good design is the most important thing. One that leverages the symbols I have mentioned to have a meaningful impact that honors the hard work and dedication of assorters of industrial diamonds.

I have attached a few examples of lapel pins, university and government seals, as well as shrike designs I have played around with for another related project. The design could be simple or busy. It could employ color or be a simple metal lapel pin. I'm hoping it will be something they will keep for a long time.
