Design Brief for Trader & Co. Summer T-Shirt

Project Overview: Trader & Co., established in 2016, is a vibrant café located in Yass, NSW, deeply connected to the local community. Our motto is “Wholesome food, Specialty Coffee, Great Community,” and we are looking to design a seasonal t-shirt to merchandise to both customers and staff. This first design will celebrate the summer season, reflecting the values and atmosphere of Trader & Co.

Target Audience:
Customers who are loyal to the café and appreciate its community vibe, wholesome food, and specialty coffee.
Café staff, embodying the brand identity and values of warmth and hospitality.

Design Objectives:
Create a design that showcases Trader & Co.’s connection to the community and its iconic local landmarks.
Highlight key café elements, reinforcing the themes of wholesome food and specialty coffee.
Use a bright, vibrant colour palette that embodies the spirit of summer.

Key Design Elements:
Trader & Co. Building:
The building should be the central focus, depicted in a stylised, iconic way, representing the café’s importance in the community.
People should be gathered around (either inside or outside), representing the welcoming, community environment.

Local Landmarks:
Include the railway bridge with the river flowing underneath, along with the poplar trees, all stylized to add a local and natural touch to the design.

Café Elements:
Incorporate an iced latte, featuring the Six8 Coffee Roasters logo prominently, as a nod to our specialty coffee.
Add summer fruit to support the wholesome food aspect, integrating them seamlessly into the design to enhance the fresh, summery feel.

Style & Colour:
The design should use soft, warm summer tones—yellows, blues, greens, and oranges—giving it a vibrant and seasonal appeal and evoking a fresh, sunny atmosphere.
The style should be bold and stylized, ensuring it’s eye-catching yet not overly detailed, making it suitable for t-shirt printing.
Design is to be on the back of t-shirt, with Trader & Co. logo on the front left breast.

Conclusion: We are looking for a design that not only reflects the essence of Trader & Co. but also celebrates our connection to Yass and the summer season. The design should feature iconic elements like the café building, local landmarks, and café-specific imagery to create a t-shirt that resonates with both our staff and customers, encapsulating the warmth of summer and the spirit of our café.
