INNER SUMMIT - LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION
Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a talented designer to create a distinctive, contemporary and meaningful logo for Inner Summit.
Inner Summit is an experiential organisation that uses nature, meaningful experiences and human connection to help people grow.
Our initial focus is young people who may be disengaged from education, experiencing difficult circumstances or at risk of entering the youth justice system.
Through experiences such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, canoeing, hiking and camping, participants are challenged, supported and encouraged to discover what they are capable of.
The outdoors is the setting. The deeper purpose is connection, belonging, agency, personal growth and possibility.
Our long-term vision is broader: to help people live fuller, more connected lives through meaningful experiences in nature.
# OUR PURPOSE
To help people live fuller, more connected lives through meaningful experiences in nature.
OUR MISSION
We use nature, connection and meaningful experiences to help people discover who they are, where they belong and what they want to contribute.
Our philosophy
Nature is the medium.
Connection is the mechanism.
Growth is the outcome.
Our motto
CONNECT • BELONG • GROW
# THE BRAND
Inner Summit needs to speak to two audiences.
1- YOUNG PEOPLE
The brand should feel authentic, adventurous, energetic, inclusive and aspirational.
A young person should look at the brand and think:
“That looks like something I’d want to be part of.”
It should feel empowering, not like an organisation trying to “fix” them.
2- THE PEOPLE WHO INVEST IN THEM
Inner Summit also works with schools, families, youth and community organisations, government organisations, corporate partners and other organisations that refer or fund participants.
These audiences need to see professionalism, trust, safety, credibility and purpose. The brand therefore needs to balance:
Youthful + Professional
Adventurous + Trustworthy
Energetic + Grounded
Contemporary + Timeless
We do not want a childish youth brand, but we also don't want something corporate, clinical or institutional.
The ideal result is a brand that a 16-year-old would be proud to wear on a T-shirt and a school principal would be comfortable putting on a partnership proposal.
# WHAT INNER SUMMIT STANDS FOR
At its heart, Inner Summit is about **potential rather than problems**.
Young people should never be defined by their past, circumstances or labels.
We want the brand to communicate:
“I can do this.”
“People believe in me.”
“I’m capable of more than I thought.”
The ultimate emotional territory is:
# POSSIBILITY
# THE CREATIVE CHALLENGE
We want a simple, distinctive and ownable visual identity that communicates the deeper meaning of Inner Summit.
Please think beyond simply illustrating “outdoors” or “adventure”.
We are interested in concepts around:
* Connection
* Belonging
* Growth
* Journey
* Balance
* Nature
* Personal transformation
* Possibility
We particularly like simple symbols with more than one layer of meaning. The logo does not necessarily need to literally represent a mountain, nature or adventure. A clever metaphor may be stronger.
# AN EXISTING IDEA WE LIKE
One of our existing concepts uses a **rock cairn**.
We like the idea because a cairn can represent building something one step at a time, progress, balance, finding your way, individual elements becoming stronger together and a journey towards a summit.
It also gives us a subtle connection to the outdoors without becoming another generic mountain logo.
However, the cairn is **not locked in**.
We are very open to a completely different creative direction if you can find a stronger visual expression of the Inner Summit idea.
If you explore the cairn concept, please don't simply reproduce the existing design. The current version is quite rounded and risks looking slightly cartoon-like. We are interested in seeing how the idea could become more sophisticated, distinctive and ownable.
# VISUAL DIRECTION
We are attracted to a visual world that combines outdoor culture, youth culture, social impact, nature and contemporary design.
The brand should feel human and authentic rather than glossy or corporate.
We are drawn to:
* Minimalist but meaningful design
* Organic or natural forms
* Strong, simple symbols
* Contemporary typography
* Natural textures
* Designs that work beautifully in one colour
* A symbol that can stand alone without the name
The logo should be something a young person would genuinely want to wear, while also being something a professional organisation would be proud to put its name behind.
# COLOUR
We are currently attracted to a natural, earthy palette incorporating:
Deep forest green
Moss / muted green
River blue
Earth orange
Warm cream
Charcoal
We particularly like earth orange as an accent colour, bringing energy, warmth and optimism. However, please don't feel constrained by this palette if you have a strong creative reason for proposing something different.
# WHAT WE DON'T WANT
Please avoid:
* Generic mountain or compass logos
* Hiking boots, tents or obvious outdoor symbols
* Extreme sports aesthetics
* Aggressive or macho design
* Children's charity aesthetics
* Cartoon-style logos
* Overly complicated illustrations
* Generic corporate logos
* Obvious mental-health imagery
* “Broken person becoming whole” concepts
* Anything that makes young people appear vulnerable, damaged or defined by trauma
We are not an extreme sports company or a clinical mental health service.
# THE BIG IDEA
Inner Summit isn't really about reaching the top of a mountain.
It's about what someone discovers about themselves along the way.
**The summit is the metaphor. The transformation is the purpose.**
We want a logo that makes people curious about the story behind it.
# DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
The logo should be:
**Simple** — recognisable and effective at very small sizes.
**Distinctive** — something Inner Summit can genuinely own.
**Meaningful** — there should be thought behind the symbol.
**Professional** — suitable for schools, government organisations, corporate partners and funding proposals.
**Youth-relevant** — contemporary enough that young people want to engage with it.
**Flexible** — able to work across digital, print, apparel, signage and merchandise.
# HOW WE WILL JUDGE THE DESIGNS
The most important criteria will be:
**Concept and meaning** — Does it capture what Inner Summit actually stands for?
**Dual audience appeal** — Does it resonate with young people and the adults and organisations investing in them?
**Distinctiveness** — Could this become an ownable symbol for Inner Summit?
**Professional credibility** — Would it work on a school partnership document, funding proposal or corporate presentation?
**Youth appeal** — Would a young person genuinely want to wear it?
**Simplicity** — Does it remain strong when reduced to a small icon?
**Emotional connection** — Does it make you feel something?
# DELIVERABLES
Please provide your proposed logo and a short explanation of the concept and thinking behind it.
Please don't just show the logo. We want to understand the idea behind it.
IF SELECTED
The winning designer will provide:
* Primary logo
* Secondary horizontal or stacked version
* Standalone brand icon
* Colour version
* Black and white version
* Reversed version
* Basic logo usage and clear-space guidance
FILE FORMATS
Final artwork must be supplied as editable/vector files
# SHOW US THE LOGO IN REAL LIFE
For your submission, please show the logo on at least two realistic applications, such as:
* T-shirt or hoodie
* Water bottle
* Backpack
* Outdoor equipment
* Website
* Social media profile
* Outdoor signage
* Program materials
We want to understand how the identity will actually live in the world.
# FINAL CREATIVE CHALLENGE
Design something that suggests:
A young person should see possibility.
A parent should see trust.
A school should see credibility.
A partner should see purpose.
