The New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has recently come forward calling for a referendum on the country’s flag. With the main parties backing his decision, all New Zealander's will get to vote on keeping the national flag or opting for a new design. DesignCrowd has sponsored this unofficial contest and invites the international designer community to submit new flag design ideas for New Zealand.

Background:
Mr Key unveiled plans at a recent press conference to allow New Zealanders to vote for an alternative to the century-old Union Jack and Southern Cross, which, he said, symbolised a colonial era "whose time has passed". Currently, over 30 flags contain the famous Union Jack and many New Zealander’s want a flag that is distinctly theirs. A recent poll by The New Zealand Herald indicated that 35% of people want a change, 46% of people don’t and 19% said perhaps, depending on the options.

This is where we come in. DesignCrowd thought it would be great see what you can create for the New Zealand people. Whether it's the famous Kiwi bird, Maori designs, a sports inspired flag, or something totally new we want to see what you come up with!

Requirements:
Please upload your design in a 1:2 ratio with the preferred dimensions of 600x1200 or larger.
