At ético planet, we design stylish eco-friendly products for the home including dinnerware, cookware, kitchen accessories, living space decor, ceramic vases, decorative candles, wall art, floor coverings and furniture.
We are also a social business, meaning that we're not in it for the money, we're in it for a cause. Our cause is to promote eco-friendly living while helping poor communities in developing countries. Our products are made in these communities, so the more we sell, the more they benefit.
Our target customers are ethical consumers who consider where the products they buy are made and how they impact the planet. Essentially the "Whole Foods" local/organic shopper. We are competing with companies like Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, and Pier 1 Imports.
We need our logo to communicate:
High quality, fashionable design
Contemporary lifestyle products for the home
Eco-friendly materials and methods
Care for the planet
Care for people
We think light-green, light-blue, vandyke brown, umber, dark olive, may be interesting colors (earth friendly) - think simple, not complex.
We would also like to be able to have a nice matching reverse logo design on a brown or green background.
We think we prefer lowercase text but open to cool looking text designs. The design can either be all one word, two seperate words, or two words with a dash (whichever gives you the best design).
ético is "ethical" in Spanish (most of our products are made in villages in Central and South America).
Our company is promoting an "Ethical Planet" where people help others. By buying our products, our customers are directly helping others in poor nations.
ético is a very important part of the logo and should be emphasized because it will be used in a stand alone fashion as well and have its own trademark - for example 'ético(tm) design' 'ético(tm) lifestyle' etc.
planet is meant to convey two things:
1. That "we are all in this together, so let's help each other out." ético planet is trying to help eliminate poverty and hunger and create a better life for families in poor countries.
2. That our products and business practices are good for the planet. With part of our profits, we will be installing solar energy in the communities where our products are made in order to offset our impact.
We are shooting for informal, but not unsophistocated.
Friendly and open - not elite.
High quality design, not high cost.
Simple and clean, not busy or complex.
Design of the text is important. Text should be able to stand alone or imagery is part of the text.
People should want to do business with us because of who we are as much as what we have to offer.

Based on designs submitted so far, I wish to encourage you to try to capture a human element in your design. Our mission is as much about helping people as it is to be gentle on the earth.

I would not make it a "must" to use this type of imagery in your design, but I wanted to present it since it gave me a sense of a bright future and connectedness (people helping people).
