Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

We need a logo design for an non-profit education center called 'AIMS Center for Math and Science Education.' We work in partnership with a local university and local schools to help improve math and science education by developing materials based on research. We translate that research into practical application and then test what we generate with students before creating a package that is then marketed to schools across the country.

We'd love to see a design that incorporates the color blue. We'd love to see something contemporary but that doesn't rely so heavily on current trends as to be outdated in just a few years time. We're leaning towards something with a powerful icon, with the text sitting comfortably next to it, but we're open to other ideas as well.

Some key ideas that could be expressed in the logo include: Partnership, Education, Math, Science, Research, Students, Teachers.

Updates

I just want to reiterate that we're looking for something contemporary. Seeing some good work so far, but also some pretty old school logos.

I think we're also looking for a sans serif treatment and fonts that aren't too chunky.

The deeper we're getting into this process the more clear things are becoming. I think the wrong thing to focus on with the icon is anything to do with math or science or the name of the company. All those things are already written out. So an icon that more directly deals with partnership is probably what we're looking for.

The other key idea with the Center is 'knowledge translation'. That's where we take research that's been developed by other groups on math and science learning and then figure out how to translate that into something teachers use in the classroom and helps kids best learn. I'd also love to see an icon that expresses that in some way. (I doubt you could combine 'partnership' with 'knowledge translation' into one icon, but I'm not opposed to being surprised.)

Lots of great designs came in over the weekend! I'll be getting feedback to you one-by-one as quick as I can. Please be patient as there are quite a few. 

Also, particularly if I've informed you that your design in under consideration, the Executive Director of the company has informed me that the word "Center" is just as important as "AIMS" and we'd love to see a version of the logos you've done that takes that into account.
