Poster-Design Kurzbeschreibung

We are a community theater dedicated exclusively to productions for children and teens. The poster I need designed is for our latest show, which is a new play called "A Princely Predicament." It is a hilarious spoof of the fairy tale genre.

The two main characters are a young (very modern/hip) prince and a gentle, sleepy dragon (with a young female personality). The secondary characters include four princesses (Asian, mermaid, American Southern Belle, and Northern European). Also included as minor characters are a king and a queen (doting parents), the prince's best friends (a minstrel and a one-armed tadpole), some doddering old wise men, an evil witch, and a corrupt king of darkness.

The plot of the story involves the prince having to choose a date for the upcoming ball. He's not really interested in "true love," he'd rather be surfing or hanging out with his friends and listening to music. In his quest to find a date, he meets the aforementioned princesses and is left unimpressed and dateless. The ever-sleeping dragon possesses magical qualities and has communicated with the royal family telepathically for generations. She and the prince share a unique bond. In the end, magic intervenes, the bad guys are overpowered, and love wins in the end.

I have no pre-conceived ideas about the design. I mention all of the above in case it jogs your creative mind..... I think I'd like to play up the humor in this play. It is a spoof, it is funny, and full of sarcastic wit and contemporary twists on the traditional fairy tale character "types".

My hope is that the poster will convey the fact that the play is upbeat and fun, and will entice people to purchase tickets. It will be featured in windows of shops throughout the town, and probably in spots online, as well.
