Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

The Open Science Commons (OSC) is a portfolio of tools and services put together to make scientists’ work easier and more productive. With the OSC, researchers are able to openly connect to shared services such as grid computing (aka high-throughput or parallel computing), clouds, data management, databases, just to give a few examples.

The OSC is:
- resources shared for the scientific community
- open access (non discriminatory access, low entry barrier)
- a collaborative effort of co-creation and co-management
enabling digital science

The idea of digital science is important because the OSC is more about ICT services than actual lab materials.

The OSC logo should reflect these values.

You may want to draw inspiration from other ‘open’ and ‘commons’ logos such as that for ‘Creative commons,’ ‘Open Source’ or ‘Open Science’ logos though it should be distinct from them. It should look good and not clashing when placed near the current EGI logo seen at http://www.egi.eu/. Files available at http://www.egi.eu/news-and-media/press/logo.html. However it shoshouldudl not be simply a version of the current EGI logo as it will be a broader initiative involving other groups.

The logo:
- The OSC logo should have a 4:3 aspect ratio, or similar
- The OSC logo should be designed with a transparent background
- The logo should come in two versions, one largely visual though it may include ‘OSC’, the other including the text ‘Open Science Commons’.
- For each, two colour versions should be produced, one for a light background and one for a dark background, with identical design and varied colours such as through inverting the colours
- The OSC logo must (whatever the colours you pick) work both in full colour and in black & white.
The logo must be provided as an editable vector file such as .ai or .svg, as well as some sample exports in .png and .jpg formats.
