The project began in 2013 with the formation of iamhalal.com as a social network for the Thai Muslim community. Through the subsequent collaboration with the Halal Science Centre of Chulalongkorn University and the Thai Government, the website transited to become a trusted website for suppliers to apply for global halal certifications and to communicate those certifications with consumers. Iamhalal.com is the first website to have contractual partnership with halal certification centres worldwide, making the information listed on the website much more authentic.

Founding
The company was founded by Mr Burhan Samoh and members of Capital Trust Limited Group, a financial service and technology provider regulated by the Financial Markets Authority of New Zealand. Supported by oil and gas firms, Capital Trust Limited Group have historically functioned in the field of trading technology, financial instruments services, quantitative financial education and fund and project management. The company was approached by Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre from the southern part of Thailand through Mr Samoh in Thailand to create true awareness of the South Thailand Insurgency. While the situation remains tense, it has largely been under controlled. Yet due to misgivings from other media, it has affected the economic standpoint of the businesses from the southern regions of Thailand. The vision was to further improve the economic and political situation of the southern part of Thailand through the website. The founders impressed upon the Muslim business associations in those regions about the potential of internet and how it can be a turning point for both the insurgency as well as to promote Thailand’s halal suppliers, which ranks the 5th largest halal export in the world and is of high standard.

The Government for the Kingdom of Thailand later supported the project in line of their Digital Economy policy.
The website was launched on 28th December at the inaugural Thailand Halal Expo by the Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-O-Cha.
