Logo-Design Kurzbeschreibung

If you’ve ever been to a fundraising gala that has a silent auction component, you will understand what my company does. Basically, we check in guests, swipe their credit cards, give them bid numbers, enter winning bids and check out guests at the end of the night. I supply the computers, the software training, the professionals, etc. However, I don’t really want my logo tied to what I do (-------------I DO NOT want a gavel, a handshake, or a computer or anything like that). I want an elegant/yet contemporary logo, as it will be the centerpiece of my simple website (which is next on the agenda!). The logo will go on a solid colored background (or I think it's called a gradient background) - simple, clean, elegant - and that's all my website will have on the home page - except a menu. What I do NOT like: logos that are hard squares or circles - like Starbucks, LEGO with the red square, etc. I am thinking I want a logo with the company name embedded into the picture somehow - or, where the name and the symbol look like they are meant to be together (so many times I see a company name and then a shape beside the name, and they look like two separate things). I would guess that the logo should have black in it and some white in it (so that I can use black lettering on the website or have a dark gray menu bar with white lettering on the website). One last thing – I would rather the logo be more horizontal – vs. vertical. I like grayish blues, purple, brown, orange, pink, gold, etc. I think I was told I need a transparent background (so the logo will look like a cut out). Please let me know if I have explained myself and thank you so much! UPDATE: I have attached a logo that I think is really neat - a pineapple in the background with the words on the front. It's not "hard" around the edges - I think it feels very elegant. Thank you.
